Business Owners Forum on Workforce and Employment

Worker shortages are stifling all sectors, with acute shortages for both skilled and unskilled labour at levels unseen in a generation.

Employers are being challenged in all directions compounded by immigration bottlenecks, staff sickness and rising costs.

With the situation set to remain critical for the foreseeable future, NZ businesses need a raft of initiatives and up-to-date information to help ease the crisis-level pressures.

Join us to hear and ask questions from industry professionals who have a good understanding of the makeup of East Tamaki businesses and will present available pipelines to attract talent and support recovery. 

Panellists:

  • Lukas Sousa, Malcolm Pacific Immigration. Lukas is an Immigration expert with nine years of experience. Lukas focuses on advising small to large employers on all immigration related matters. He will be discussing the new employer accreditation system; immigration trends of job checks and work visa applications and immigration steps: order of events.
  • Julie Prentice, Manukau Institute of Technology. Julie is the Head of External Engagement & Marketing. Prior to MIT, Julie held senior management roles within a number of recruitment agencies and three ITOs (industry training organisations), working with businesses to source talent and upskill their teams. At MIT she leads the external facing Schools & Community team, the Marketing and Events team and the Career & Employment Solutions team who connect employers to our students and graduates. She will share how MIT can support your business to create a pipeline of talent.
  • Rod Giles, Contract Warehousing. Rod is the Managing Director at local business, Contract Warehousing and has developed a strong relationship with MSD over the past 45 years recruiting the majority of his new hires with the support of MSD’s Work Broker team. It’s one of many businesses that have taken on Mana in Mahi participants, with a particular focus on supporting Māori and Pacific people into employment.
  • Wendy Lin, Mina Mubarak, Rahool Raja, MSD – Work and Income connects employers and New Zealand’s largest pool of job seekers. Learn more about the range of employment services available to assist businesses including help and support to recruit full-time, part-time or casual workers as well as the financial assistance you can access to help with wages, training, and other costs.
