AT decision to reduce Highbrook Drive speed limit

06 Nov 2019

Auckland Transport has ignored the feedback of Business East Tamaki and local businesses and dropped the speed limit of Highbrook Drive from the motorway interchange to the intersection with Business Parade South and North, from 70kph to 60kph. It is a dual carriageway, the national speed limit for which is 70kph. This decision is expected to take effect from around  the middle of 2020 and impact negatively on business productivity.

Business East Tamaki's submission pointed out that it is a safe dual carriageway with no more access road/junctions than before the latest Highbrook Business Park developments, and is self-regulating at peak times when it becomes congested. As a key freight route, we felt the speed on this section could safely be increased to 80kph. This stance was supported by the National Road Carriers Association.
